My Family
My
mama's name is Raven. She's been taking care of me all my life. She's
a writer and she designed this web site (I helped). I love her very much.
In fact, if you want to talk to me, you have to go through her. She's
my minion #1 and she used to be my maid ... until she gave me my very
own room on my 8th birthday. She even painted the walls purple and put
magic palm trees on them. Now I'm my own maid.
This
is a picture of my dad. We haven't seen each other in a long time, but
we've been writing and I hope I get to meet him again soon. My mom says
we have a lot in common--and not just the way we look. She says sometimes
that I remind her of him. Since we've been writing, I found out we really
do!
My
Nana & Nopa (my mother's mother and her husband) live in
Germany. They got married a month after I was born and love each other
very much.
Nana
is
a photographer, a writer, and she was one of the best chess players in
the U.S in the 80's! She always makes me feel loved and special. Nopa is
a
doctor
of air pollution chemistry who builds flying machines out of grass and
paper and invents the neatest things. We're hoping his tornado machine
is a big hit!
Papa
& Reiko are also my grandparents. Papa is my mama's father and works
as a professor of Marine Biology in Arizona. Reiko is from Japan and has
spent
the last several years working toward creating and now maintaining Phoenix's
Japanese Friendship Garden. It's beautiful! Papa & Reiko have three
other members of their family: Marina & Ami who are my aunts, even
though they're younger than me, and Ginger, their orange chow. She is very
friendly
and
enjoys sushi as much as we do.
My godfather is John. He's silly. He always makes me laugh and takes me to my favorite restaurants. Thanks to him, both of my web sites have hosting. He takes care of a lot of people in his life, but he always makes time for me. I love him very much.
Aunt Gira is my mother's girlfriend; she's also my godmother. Her daughter "Miss V" and I used to be "nest sisters"--that means we used to live together. She lives in New Orleans now, and she used to live in San Francisco, so we don't get to see her very often, but I love her a lot anyway.
There are a lot of other people we call family, too. My mama's aunts live in Seattle and their sons are all grown. The two oldest recently married, so our family is growing. Some of our friends who have been with us for many years (like John and Gira) are family, too. Craig, my mom's boyfriend, her friend Vanessa's family, and her friends Nephtali & Sarah we call family as well.
What does it mean to be part of my family? It means we're really close to them, there's a lot of love, and we take care of each other for a long time. We're always there for each other, we trust one another, and we want to see one another happy and often. Mama says I'm very loved, and it's true!
